PREPARING

We know that tagging and preparing your items takes time, and we have some tips on how to better prepare them to increase your chances of selling them. Remember, there is a 250 item limit, so bring your best to sell!

TAGS MUST BE PRINTED ON YOUR ASSIGNED COLOR PAPER. NO CARD STOCK PLEASE. This helps with the sorting of items at the end of the sale. Your color is assigned by consignor number and can be found in the chart listed above.

  • CLOTHES (see diagram below)
  • - When hanging an outfit that includes pants, hang the pants to the back of the shirt so that they can easily be seen, make sure you pin the pants to the shirt AND the hanger so they don’t pull down the shirt.
    - DO NOT put any clothing items in zip top bags!! Shoppers don't want to buy items they can't fully see. All clothing items must be on hangers.
-Consider grouping 2 or 3 items together on hangers.

If you have more than one of an item that you want to sell together, there are 2 options: hang one on the hanger and pin the shoulders of the others to the hanger or put each item on its own hanger and rubber band the hangers together. Make sure you input the correct number of items on the tag. Only one tag per group. - If a shirt has a wide neck and doesn't stay on a hanger well, safety pin the shirt onto the hanger near the shoulders or neck to ensure that the shirt stays on or pick another hanger. - When selling pants make sure you pin them to the TOP of the hanger on either side of the hook so they don't slide.

  • SMALL ITEMS
  • - We recommend small items such as belts, bottles, hair bows and other miscellaneous small items be put in zip top bags. Make sure you attach tag to the outside of the bag and don't tape over the barcode. Make sure you tape top of bag closed so items can't be removed.

  • GAMES AND PUZZLES
  • - Tape boxes closed so pieces don’t get separated. For puzzles, use plastic wrap or zip top bags. Don’t use tape on wood puzzles, it may ruin the finish.

  • TOYS
  • - Please make certain that all pieces of a toy item are securely fastened together and that your toy is complete. You may use packing tape, zip top bags, plastic containers, etc.. but PLEASE make sure that all items are secure. Inevitably children take things apart, scatter pieces and/or remove tags that are "in their way" of play so the more secure you make your toy and tag the better FOR ALL OF US!

  • BEDDING
  • - It is BEST to bring your bedding in a clear bedding bag, like the bedding was purchased in. This allows the shoppers to easily see the bedding without needing to take it out. It also keeps smaller items together. - Ziploc makes a very large bag that works well for these bedding items.

  • EQUIPMENT
  • - Make sure it is clean… all equipment must be assembled by owner at drop off.

  • EXTRA SELLER TIPS
  • - Make sure your items look their very best. The more time you take to wash and iron your clothing, the better it will look to a buyer. Also, button all the buttons, zip all the zippers, tie all the bows, etc..
    - Make sure all of your toys and equipment are clean by using a household cleaner to wipe away all dirt and marks.
    - Make sure items needing batteries have working ones.

  • STAIN REMOVAL TIPS
  • - Grease stains - For dark spots on dark fabrics, which are usually a grease stain, use Dawn Dish washing Liquid. Rub into the stain and wash as normal. Almost always works great, even if the item has been dried in the dryer. Sometimes it will take treating twice.
    - Yellow stains - Mix about 1/2 cup dish washing detergent (such as Cascade) with 1/2 cup of Clorox 2 (the pink liquid) in about 1 - 2 gallons of water. Soak the stained item in the mixture for several hours, then wash as usual. Works for other types of stains as well.

PRICING

This guide will help give you ideas on how to price your items so that you are putting more money in your pocket and not taking items back home after the sale. You are free to put any price on your items but please keep these things in mind as you are pricing.

Price to sell!!

While you’re pricing, think of yourself as the buyer and ask yourself, “What would I pay for this?”

When you price, keep in mind that clothing goes for about 30% of new retail price, depending on the brand. Better brands sell for more than common brands.

Common brands are Osh Kosh, Sonoma, Circo, Old Navy, Faded Glory, Carters, Kid Connection, Simply Basic, Levi, The Children’s Place, Lee

Better brands are Gap, Justice, Hartstrings, Flapdoodles, Talbots Kids, Gymboree, Nike, Hilfiger, Hanna Anderson, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Matilda Jane, Strasburg, Aeropostale, Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie

If you have items “New with tags” make sure you mark that on the tag and you can mark these for a higher price.

You can price your items for more than you would at a yard sale.

More popular bigger toys with popular brands sell for about 1/3 – 1/2 retail.

Price your items in $.50 increments. Our software will not accept lower increments.

Items are sold at full price Wed. – Fri. If you choose to discount your items then they will be sold for ½ price on Friday night at our ½ price preview sale for volunteers and then to the consignors and general public on Saturday. To mark your items for discount you must do this while inputting your items on the WORK WITH INVENTORY sheet on the CONSIGNOR HOMEPAGE.

Remember – if you plan to donate your unsold items, you should mark them for ½ price. They may sell at half price, giving you a chance to earn more. If they don't sell, at half off, then they will be donated.

    Tagging Information

  • Sizing
  • You need to use the numbered sizes. Do Not use S,M,L, XL (only use these for jr. sizes and maternity). Use your best judgment as to what number the size is.

  • Writing Descriptions
  • Write a good description of your item in your inventory for your tag. If for some reason your tag is separated from your item, the only way we can match it is with the description on the tag.

Make sure if your item is NEW then put that in the description on the tag.

  • Pricing
  • You will be able to price in $.50 increments. Need some help on pricing? See the PRICING section on this page for some suggestions.

  • Discount - Half Price Sale
  • When you create your tags you will indicate if you want your items to be discounted at our Half Price Sale. If you do not want items to go half off they will still be left on the sales floor, but will not be marked down. They will still be available for purchase at full price. If you plan on donating items, you really should mark them for half price to possibly increase your sales total.

  • Marking Items for Donation
  • My Kidz Closet will donate all unsold items at the end of the week to charities in our community, including the Foster Parents of Paulding County. When you enter your items into your inventory you will mark whether you want items donated or not. If you do not wish to donate unsold items, you are responsible for picking those items up during the designated time at pick up on Saturday. ANY ITEMS NOT CLAIMED AT THAT TIME, WILL BE DONATED!! NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • Printing
  • MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR TAGS PRINTED ON THE CORRECT COLOR PAPER, USING THE CHART AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE!! PLEASE DO NOT USE CARD STOCK, AS SOME INK BRANDS WILL BLEED TOGETHER MAKING THE BAR CODE ILLEGIBLE!!

    • Make sure before printing you have your pop up blockers off or you will definitely run into problems.

    • Tag sheet prints out using the full sheet of paper. The 10 tags should print using the ENTIRE page. If this doesn't happen check your printer settings. If you still have printing issues, or your printer is printing a blank page with the tags, try checking the print as a PDF box and print the tags using this method.

    • If you have trouble with your tags being too small or too big or gibberish, then try using INTERNET EXPLORER. Our tagging system has known issues with Firefox. If you continue having issues printing, contact us through Facebook or by email.

  • Make sure your items will scan correctly
  • Your printer resolution should be set to high or fine and plenty of ink available.

The barcodes on your tags should be clear, with the spaces between the bars free of ink. DO NOT USE CARD STOCK as we have found that some ink can bleed between the bars.

    Attaching your tags

    DO NOT TAPE OVER BARCODES!

When shoppers are looking at items on the racks, keeping items looking consistent by having tags in the same place greatly increases shopper's ease of making their selections.

Clothes must be hung so that when you are looking at the front of the clothing, the hook of the hanger is facing to the left, and the tag is placed on the right, as shown in the diagram below.

My Kidz Closet children's consignment sale hanging children's clothes

    DO NOT TAPE OVER BARCODES!

  • Clothing
  • Attach your tag to the top right of each garment as you are looking at the front with a 1 inch or larger safety pin. Place the pin along the top of the tag -- not through any information.

It is acceptable to use a tagging gun instead of safety pins to attach your tags to clothing. If a tagging gun is used, it is acceptable to attach the tag under the collar, or in a seam to prevent damage to the item. However, the tag should still be on the right side as you are looking at the item.

  • Toys
  • Toys and equipment should be securely tagged with packing tape across the top of the tag.

Items containing small parts may be placed in a zip top bag with the tag taped on the top third of the tag to the outside of the bag.

    DO NOT TAPE OVER BARCODES!

  • Shoes
  • Shoes are limited to your 10 highest quality pairs. Shoes must be placed in a zip top bag or taped or tied securely together with ribbon, string or even zip ties. If using zip top bags, tags must be taped with packing tape to OUTSIDE of the bag. Do not tape over barcode.

Please make sure your tags are as secure as possible to your items. My Kidz Closet cannot sell items or return them to you if the tag has fallen off!!!
